Computer User Support Specialist – Remote Contract
Listing checked September 17, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 is hiring Computer User Support Specialists to work on a customer project that trains next-generation AI systems. You will use your real-world troubleshooting skills to help models learn how to reason and perform. The role is fully remote and contractor-based. No AI background is needed. Your hardware, software, and networking expertise is what counts.
What You'll Do6
- 1Troubleshoot and fix hardware, software, and network problems, from simple to complex, following established best practices.
- 2Advise on operating system support for Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus connectivity topics like TCP/IP, VPNs, and DNS.
- 3Record each troubleshooting step, solution, and user interaction inside a ticket management system.
- 4Share detailed process observations that help improve support workflows and the quality of training data.
- 5Work asynchronously and explain technical ideas clearly in writing and in conversation.
- 6Spot recurring support patterns and suggest process changes to the project team.
Requirements7
- 1At least 3 years of hands-on Tier 2 or Tier 3 IT support experience.
- 2Proven ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues across different platforms.
- 3Solid grasp of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VPN, and DNS troubleshooting.
- 4Comfort using ticket management systems and keeping thorough documentation.
- 5Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for making technical topics easy to understand.
- 6Certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or ITIL are a plus.
- 7A track record of working independently, managing priorities, and delivering high-quality technical input.
Who Should Apply
This role fits someone with at least three years of Tier 2 or Tier 3 support experience who enjoys breaking down complex technical problems and writing clear explanations. If you have strong networking knowledge and have worked with ticket systems, you will likely do well. The role is less suitable for candidates who prefer hands-on hardware repair or who dislike documenting their work in detail. A common reason applicants get rejected is not showing enough depth in TCP/IP, VPN, or DNS troubleshooting. Another is providing vague examples of past support work instead of specific, measurable outcomes.
