Civil Engineer - Remote Contract
Listing checked September 17, 2026 · pay as published by Micro1
Overview
micro1 seeks Civil Engineers to support a customer project that trains next-generation AI systems. You will design evaluation tasks that mirror real engineering work in structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development. The role is fully remote and does not require prior AI experience. Your domain knowledge in code compliance and constraint reasoning is what matters most.
What You'll Do7
- 1Create realistic civil engineering evaluation tasks that reflect complex, professional scenarios.
- 2Gather and produce technical documents such as engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, specification sheets, cost estimates, and code references.
- 3Build challenging problems that demand nuanced constraint reasoning and adherence to regulatory codes.
- 4Identify the correct engineering solution for each task while satisfying all relevant regulatory and geometric constraints.
- 5Write detailed, multi-item rubrics for LLM-based assessment that grade technical accuracy and code compliance.
- 6Generate and validate large sets of realistic data files, including CSVs, PDFs, and spreadsheets, that represent typical project documentation.
- 7Work with project stakeholders to refine task clarity, realism, and evaluation standards over time.
Requirements7
- 1At least 5 years of professional experience on civil engineering projects across different domains.
- 2Professional Engineer (PE) license or active progress toward licensure is strongly preferred.
- 3Proven skill in preparing and managing technical documentation, including code-compliance and design specifications.
- 4Experience locating, interpreting, and applying regulatory codes within technical solutions.
- 5Ability to create or review complex technical artifacts like drawings, reports, and data sets used for project evaluation.
- 6Capacity to reason through intricate constraints and deliver solutions that match real-world engineering practice.
- 7Strong written communication skills for authoring clear, thorough evaluation materials.
Who Should Apply
This role fits a licensed or license-track Civil Engineer with at least five years of hands-on project work and a knack for technical writing. You should be comfortable turning real engineering problems into structured evaluation tasks and working with codes, drawings, and data sets. The position is less suitable for engineers who prefer only fieldwork or who dislike documentation and rubric writing. Candidates often get rejected when they lack specific examples of code compliance work or cannot show how they handled complex constraints in past projects. Another common reason for low fit scores is not providing evidence of creating or reviewing technical artifacts like drawings or reports.
Salary Insight
Compensation is $50 to $100 per hour, paid per task that meets project specifications. The time to complete each task varies based on your experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply, and experts must submit a minimum number of tasks per week.

Application Tip
In your application, highlight concrete examples of code compliance and constraint reasoning from your civil engineering work. Name the specific codes you have applied, such as IBC or AASHTO, and describe a project where you resolved a complex design constraint. Quantify your experience with technical documentation, like the number of drawings or reports you produced, to show you can handle the evaluation task workload.
