Overview

Handshake AI seeks experienced chemists for part-time contract work that improves how AI models handle chemistry. You will use hands-on knowledge in computational chemistry, physical chemistry, or theoretical chemistry to test AI output against real simulation, modeling, and reaction workflows. The project runs on an ongoing basis, so you can fit it alongside a current role. Tasks are remote and asynchronous, with no set schedule or minimum hours. Your feedback helps models reason more like a practicing chemist.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Design expert-level computational chemistry problems and scenarios that reflect real simulation, modeling, and reaction workflows.
  • 2Review AI-generated answers for technical accuracy, reproducibility, and fit with standard lab or research practice.
  • 3Write structured feedback that points out errors, gaps, and places where a model's reasoning departs from accepted chemistry.
  • 4Assess how well AI output matches the tools and methods used in quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, or cheminformatics.
  • 5Work at your own pace, with no fixed schedule or minimum hour target.
  • 6Apply your sub-domain depth to judge whether a response would hold up in production-scale research.

Requirements10

  • 1Hold a PhD in Computational, Physical, or Theoretical Chemistry. An MS with pharma or materials industry experience also qualifies.
  • 2Show an industry or research record, such as first-author publications or hands-on work running production-scale simulation or DFT workflows.
  • 3Demonstrate depth in one sub-domain: quantum chemistry with Gaussian, ORCA, Psi4, or VASP; molecular dynamics with GROMACS or LAMMPS; or cheminformatics with RDKit plus reaction and thermodynamic modeling.
  • 4Meet at least two of the three core qualifications above to apply.
  • 5Bring proficiency across multiple quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, and cheminformatics platforms to strengthen your application.
  • 6Add experience running production simulation or DFT pipelines in pharma, materials, or energy research.
  • 7Hold UK work authorization.
  • 8Write with strong communication and close attention to detail.
  • 9Explain complex chemistry concepts in plain terms.
  • 10Work on your own in a remote, asynchronous environment.

Who Should Apply

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in computational, physical, or theoretical chemistry, or an MS with pharma or materials experience, and has UK work authorization. Depth in quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, or cheminformatics plus first-author publications or DFT workflow experience matters most.

Salary Insight

The listing sets pay at $65.00 per hour. That rate reflects the advanced chemistry background and production-scale simulation or DFT experience this project asks for. The work is part-time and project-based, so earnings track the hours you choose to take on.
