Building Code Plans Examiner | $80-$120/hr Remote
Overview
This remote contractor role lets you put your deep knowledge of Florida building codes to work in an entirely new way—training AI systems to understand construction compliance. As a Building Code Plans Examiner, you’ll review architectural and structural plans submitted to South Florida jurisdictions and provide expert feedback that helps shape how AI models reason about regulations. Your domain expertise is all that’s needed; no prior AI experience is required.
What You'll Do7
- 1Examine architectural, structural, and permit documents to ensure they meet the Florida Building Code and local jurisdictional standards.
- 2Pinpoint code compliance issues, potential risks, and missing requirements before a project can move forward.
- 3Record your findings with clear references to the specific regulations or standards that apply.
- 4Determine whether submitted plans satisfy the permitting requirements of municipalities in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties.
- 5Translate technical code requirements into straightforward explanations for non-technical stakeholders.
- 6Contribute high-quality, real-world data and insights that teach AI models how construction code compliance works.
- 7Work alongside project leads and technical teams to maintain accuracy and consistency across deliverables.
Requirements7
- 1A B.S. in Civil Engineering or Architecture is strongly preferred.
- 2An active Florida credential such as a Standard Plans Examiner License, Building Code Administrator License, Provisional Plans Examiner License, or licensure as an Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (PE), or General Contractor (CGC).
- 3Proven experience performing building code plan review and permit plan evaluation for Florida jurisdictions, especially South Florida.
- 4Familiarity with reviewing construction documents and spotting compliance risks.
- 5The ability to explain code interpretations and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- 6Previous work with Palm Beach, Broward, or Miami-Dade counties is highly valued.
- 7A meticulous approach to detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy and clear documentation.
Who Should Apply
This role is perfect for seasoned building code professionals who know the ins and outs of Florida’s regulatory environment and want to put that expertise to work in a groundbreaking way. You’re the kind of person who enjoys poring over plans, catching every nuance of the code, and sharing your insights with people who don’t speak ‘construction.’ If you hold a relevant Florida license and have hands‑on experience with South Florida jurisdictions, you’ll thrive here.
Salary Insight
The position pays a competitive rate of $80–$120 per hour, based on experience and credentials.
