Overview
We're looking for building code and permitting specialists to help train AI systems designed to streamline construction permitting and regulatory compliance. In this role, you'll apply your deep knowledge of building codes, jurisdictional requirements, and permit review workflows to annotate, validate, and audit construction-related data. This is a unique opportunity to bridge your domain expertise with AI development, ensuring models accurately interpret complex regulatory frameworks across diverse regions.
What You'll Do5
- 1Review and label construction documents such as permit applications, site plans, and inspection reports to identify code requirements and jurisdictional rules.
- 2Audit annotated datasets to confirm accuracy against local, state, and national building codes, zoning constraints, and compliance elements.
- 3Develop annotation guidelines that capture nuances in building code interpretation and jurisdictional differences for AI model training.
- 4Evaluate AI-generated permit reviews and compliance summaries, providing structured feedback to improve regulatory reasoning and edge-case handling.
- 5Contribute to documentation standards and onboarding materials for construction permitting annotation projects.
Requirements4
- 1Strong familiarity with building codes, permitting workflows, and jurisdictional requirements—ideally from experience as a permit expediter, architect, plan examiner, or government reviewer.
- 2Deep expertise in at least one of the following jurisdictions: Chula Vista, Tampa, Palm Beach County, Pinellas County, Sunny Isles, Jacksonville, or Surfside.
- 3Ability to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per week to start, with potential to scale hours based on performance.
- 4Comfort navigating resources like the ICC website and translating code language into actionable annotations.
