Overview
AfterQuery, a YC-backed startup, brings practicing lawyers in to build the legal reasoning tests that train AI models. Your work covers contract law, constitutional law, intellectual property and other fields: you write exam-grade hypotheticals, then judge how the model handles them. Everything runs remote and asynchronous, so you pick your hours around existing practice. Pay is $138 per hour, and the credential check includes bar admission.
What You'll Do6
- Draft exam-level legal questions and fact patterns across several fields of law, including contracts, constitutional doctrine, and IP.
- Read model answers against settled doctrine and flag reasoning that falls apart under scrutiny.
- Write detailed critiques that name the specific rule misread or the element an answer skipped.
- Calibrate question difficulty with legal and technical teammates so items stay demanding without becoming unfair.
- Check citations and doctrinal statements before any content goes out.
- Work across more than one practice area instead of a single narrow specialty.

- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Bar admission, since the application asks for it.
- A record in legal practice, research, or academia with command of more than one area of law.
- Analytical and written work sharp enough to expose gaps in someone else's argument.
- Comfort judging logic and consistency, not just surface correctness.
