Overview
SureHost builds software that helps short-term rental operators run and grow their businesses, with the technical and AI team based in Pune and product and customer teams in Des Moines. The AI work here spans video and image analysis, multimodal models, LLMs, agents, evaluation, and the services that tie those pieces into the product. This is an individual builder seat: you write code, ship systems, and stay close to the customer problems and architecture tradeoffs behind them. Two technical leaders sit nearby, one with deep AI and architecture background and one with CTO-level engineering experience. The engagement starts as a full-time contractor role with a path to full-time employment as the company grows.
What You'll Do9
- Write and refine Python AI/ML systems that carry real product weight, not just demo behavior.
- Implement and test LLM, computer vision, multimodal, and agent workflows.
- Assess open-source models and third-party AI APIs, then wire the ones that fit into the product.
- Assemble datasets, evaluation pipelines, and automated tests.
- Inspect model outputs to locate where accuracy or reliability breaks down.
- Build data-processing pipelines, APIs, and backend services.
- Move working prototypes into a live product where latency, cost, and reliability matter.
- Troubleshoot production problems and improve performance, dependability, and cost.
- Join technical leadership as architecture and product decisions take shape, and track how customer problems turn into requirements.
Requirements9
- 2 to 5 years in software engineering, ML engineering, or applied AI.
- Strong Python development skills.
- Practical work with AI/ML frameworks and APIs.
- Experience with LLMs, computer vision, or multimodal AI.
- Working knowledge of APIs, databases, Git, testing, and cloud environments.
- A record of turning prototypes into maintainable software.
- A structured method for judging AI output beyond whether a demo looks good.
- Clear problem solving and communication.
- Curiosity about the customer and business problem behind the technical work.
Preferred Qualifications4
- Experience deploying AI applications
- Building agents
- Work with video or multimodal models
- Contributions to production ML systems
Who Should Apply
Engineers with 2 to 5 years of Python and applied AI work who want sight of the whole system, from customer problem to production behavior. You judge model output through structured evaluation rather than a quick demo check, and you want ownership past a single layer of the stack.
Salary Insight
The posted rate runs $15.00 to $20.00 per hour for this contractor engagement. That figure fits an early-career to mid-level applied AI engineer, which matches the 2 to 5 years of experience the role asks for, so treat scope and the conversion to full-time as part of the negotiation.
