Overview

Bring your VFX, animation, or photography eye to a leading AI lab's GenAI team. You will judge high-resolution video and stills at the pixel-level, catching compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, and grain inconsistencies that most viewers miss. This part-time remote role places you as an extended team member through Cincinnatus LLC, with working hours in the PST to EST window. You will help shape evaluation standards that guide how the AI models learn quality.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Inspect video frames and stills one by one, documenting artifacts such as compression noise, aliasing, banding, and inconsistent grain.
  • 2Judge whether upscaled or enhanced images meet professional standards, and call out any divergence from expected quality.
  • 3Create and update scoring rubrics and evaluation guidelines so every reviewer applies the same quality bar, even for unusual edge cases.
  • 4Turn subtle visual flaws into concise written descriptions that feed data labels and evaluation templates.
  • 5Produce your own test images and video clips for side-by-side comparisons and targeted checks.
  • 6Work with other visual experts and program leads to keep quality consistent across shots and across the review team.

Requirements7

  • 1At least five years of professional work doing high-end visual evaluation in film, VFX, animation, or professional photography.
  • 2Hands-on experience in one or more of these roles: VFX supervisor, rendering supervisor, lighting artist or lead, colorist, cinematographer, effects or surfacing artist, high-end photographer, director, or digital projectionist.
  • 3A degree or formal training from a respected film, VFX, or digital media program.
  • 4Daily access to a 4K monitor or display for precise pixel-level inspection.
  • 5Comfort using AI tools and workflows, including generating your own visual samples for testing.
  • 6Capacity to work 20 hours per week on a consistent schedule within the PST to EST window.
  • 7Professional fluency in English, with the skill to describe subtle visual issues in clear written language.

Who Should Apply

This role suits senior visual professionals who have spent years inspecting images frame by frame and can articulate what looks wrong in precise language. You should have held a title like VFX supervisor, colorist, or cinematographer and have a 4K display at your desk. If you are early in your career or only have casual photography experience, this position will not be a good fit. Applications often fall short when candidates cannot name concrete examples of artifact detection or do not have reliable access to a 4K monitor.

Salary Insight

The pay is $60 to $90 per hour, and the role is part-time W-2 through Cincinnatus LLC. This rate matches the senior expertise the role demands; typical image-evaluation contracts for professionals with five-plus years of experience land in a similar range.

Application Tip

In your application, quantify your pixel-level review experience in years and name the specific roles you have held, such as VFX supervisor or colorist. Then confirm your 4K monitor setup, since that is a hard requirement.

Character and Facial Animation Consultant

An AI lab developing a performance transfer model is bringing in senior character animators to define what faithful acting capture looks like. The model carries an actor's timing, emotional beats, and subtle physical choices into a new output, and your evaluations will judge how well it preserves the original. You will critique the current scoring approach, set quality criteria, and help select the human reviewers who rate outputs. The role is a part-time W-2 position through Cincinnatus LLC, with occasional in-person sessions in Playa Vista or New York.

Video Evaluation Generalist

Mercor partners with a leading AI lab on a video research project, and you'll play a hands-on role shaping its quality. Your main task is to watch two short clips side by side and judge them through a structured rubric. Each comparison captures details like prompt adherence, motion quality, visual artifacts, and physical plausibility. The position is short-term, remote, and allows substantial scheduling flexibility, with a minimum of 20 hours per week expected for about 1.5 weeks. You'll also occasionally write short justifications for your score choices, so clear, precise language matters just as much as sharp observation.
