Video Editing Professional
Listing checked October 9, 2026 · pay as published by Mercor
Overview
The project assembles a panel of professional video editors to create post-production tasks that train and evaluate AI agents. Each assignment gives an agent the package a junior editor receives: source footage, a brief, and a deliverable spec, plus a hidden answer key or rubric so the team judges the finished video on the edit itself. Editors work in their own software, such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer, and supply footage they shot and own. Expect about 12 hours each week on an engagement paid by the hour, with remote work. The panel is not open to residents of California.
What You'll Do6
- 1Contribute original footage you shot and own outright, then write realistic editing briefs from that material.
- 2Source clips with reuse licenses when you do not shoot your own, and author briefs around those assets.
- 3Build each task from start to finish in your own editing software: cut the piece, add defects or distractors when the brief calls for them, and create the reference edit that graders compare against.
- 4Write the grading criteria, with concrete, checkable standards and the editorial reasoning behind each one.
- 5Blind-solve tasks built by other editors, then document a step-by-step solution without seeing the hidden answer.
- 6Match delivery details such as resolution, frame rate, codecs, audio channel layouts, and frame-accurate cuts.
Requirements6
- 15+ years editing in film and TV, commercials, broadcast news, or creator and social production, with ownership of deliverables end to end.
- 2Fluency in at least one professional editor: Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer, plus basic color and audio cleanup.
- 3Comfort with delivery specs: resolution, frame rate, codecs, audio channel layouts, and frame-accurate cuts.
- 4A library of unpublished original footage you shot and own outright, with on-camera talent who will sign appearance releases. More footage strengthens your application.
- 5Residence outside California.
- 6Availability for about 12 hours each week.
Who Should Apply
The right editor has spent 5+ years cutting professional work in film, TV, commercials, broadcast news, or creator and social production, and can show a reel that proves ownership of finished deliverables. You should be at ease in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer, with enough color and audio cleanup skill to submit a clean reference edit. This panel also rewards editors who own unpublished footage and can get appearance releases from the people on camera, because that material feeds task creation. Candidates less suited to the role include those with under 5 years of professional editing, those who work from stock libraries they do not control, and residents of California, who the panel cannot accept. A common reason applicants score low is a reel that shows polished work but no evidence of full ownership, brief writing, or graded criteria; another is missing delivery-spec knowledge such as codecs, frame rates, or audio channel layouts.
Salary Insight
The posted rate is $50.00/hr for an engagement paid by the hour. That rate matches senior-level contract editing for AI training work, given the 5+ years of experience, footage ownership, and release paperwork the task requires. You can expect about 12 hours of work each week, so this suits an editor who wants structured project hours beside other commitments.

Application Tip
Lead your application with your reel and a short list of owned footage. Name your editor (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer) and point to one finished cut that shows color correction, audio cleanup, and frame-accurate delivery. Add a note about whether the people on camera will sign appearance releases, since that detail addresses a key requirement and can raise your fit score.
