Overview
Mercor seeks experienced software engineers from companies that serve retail investors for a paid 45 to 60 minute expert interview. The client is a leading AI company building financial intelligence products. You will discuss how your engineering team evaluates, shortlists, and integrates outside APIs and AI vendors, from market data and news feeds to identity tools or AI chat. The conversation focuses on your own experience, and you will not share confidential employer information.
What You'll Do6
- Join one remote interview that runs 45 to 60 minutes and fits your schedule.
- Walk through a recent decision where your team evaluated or shortlisted an outside API or AI vendor.
- Explain what shaped the final choice, including needs such as market data, news, research, identity, or AI chat.
- Describe what helped or hurt the integration: documentation quality, reliability, pricing, security review, compliance review, and vendor support.
- Share candid feedback on what you want from vendors that serve retail investing products.
- Limit the discussion to your own views and avoid confidential or proprietary employer details.
Requirements8
- Hold a current in-house role as a software engineer, backend or integrations engineer, platform engineer, tech lead, or hands-on engineering manager. Freelance and consulting work does not qualify.
- Work at an online brokerage, investing app, robo-advisor, neobank with investing, wealth platform, or brokerage infrastructure provider that reaches retail investors.
- Spend your time on the retail product side rather than institutional, hedge fund, or asset management desks.
- Have evaluated or integrated a third-party API or AI vendor within the past 12 months, or expect to do so soon.
- Take part in vendor selection, not only implementation after another group made the call.
- Live in the United States.
- Nice to have: integration work with market data, news, research, or AI chat features.
- Nice to have: experience across company sizes or seniority levels.
Who Should Apply
Hands-on backend, integrations, or platform engineers, tech leads, and engineering managers at online brokerages, investing apps, robo-advisors, neobanks, or wealth platforms fit best. You work on retail investor products and helped choose or evaluate a third-party API or AI vendor in the last year. US-based in-house employment is required.
Salary Insight
The posted rate is $100 to $120 per hour for a single 45 to 60 minute interview. That range reflects the specialized experience Mercor needs: in-house retail investing engineering plus hands-on vendor evaluation.
