Software Engineer (C++ / HPC / GPU Computing)
Listing checked October 17, 2026 · pay as published by Talentxo
Overview
This role centers on writing high-performance C++ code that runs close to the hardware, with work spanning systems programming, parallel computing, and GPU kernel development using CUDA and HIP. You will design and maintain software for compute-intensive workloads, profile applications to find bottlenecks in compute, memory, and I/O, and deliver measurable speedups. The position involves optimizing memory layout and data movement across the memory hierarchy, plus working with Linux internals such as processes, threads, synchronization, and virtual memory. Engineers who want to understand how code maps to memory, threads, and hardware rather than just using libraries will find the work engaging. The team also evaluates new hardware, toolchains, and optimization techniques together.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design, develop, and maintain high-performance C++ software for compute-intensive workloads.
- 2Write and optimize parallel code for multi-core CPUs and GPUs, including CUDA and HIP kernels.
- 3Profile applications to identify bottlenecks in compute, memory, and I/O, then deliver measurable speedups.
- 4Optimize memory layout, access patterns, and data movement across the memory hierarchy.
- 5Work with Linux systems internals: processes, threads, synchronization, and virtual memory.
- 6Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code and design reviews.
- 7Benchmark, debug, and validate correctness and performance across hardware platforms.
- 8Collaborate with the team to evaluate new hardware, toolchains, and optimization techniques.
Requirements12
- 1Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field.
- 22+ years of professional experience in C/C++ development, systems programming, or performance-focused engineering.
- 3Strong command of modern C++ (C++11 and later), including memory management, pointers, templates, and OOP.
- 4Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and their performance trade-offs.
- 5Strong understanding of operating system concepts: processes, threads, virtual memory, scheduling, and synchronization.
- 6Hands-on experience developing and debugging on Linux (gcc/clang, gdb, make/CMake).
- 7Experience with multithreaded or concurrent programming (e.g., std::thread, OpenMP, pthreads).
- 8Strong analytical and debugging skills, with a habit of measuring before optimizing.
- 9Preferred: experience with GPU programming using CUDA or HIP/ROCm.
- 10Preferred: understanding of GPU architecture: warps/wavefronts, occupancy, and the memory hierarchy (global, shared, registers, caches).
- 11Preferred: experience with parallel programming models and HPC concepts (MPI, OpenMP, SIMD/vectorization).
- 12Preferred: familiarity with profiling tools such as perf, VTune, Nsight Systems/Compute, or rocprof.
Who Should Apply
Candidates with 2+ years of C/C++ systems programming experience and strong Linux debugging skills will thrive here. The role suits engineers who enjoy performance work, multithreaded code, and understanding hardware behavior. GPU experience with CUDA or HIP is a plus, but strong C++ fundamentals matter most.
