Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack (Python, Java, Rust, C#, C++) | $90-$110/hr Remote
Overview
This role places senior full-stack engineers inside a top-tier AI lab's generative AI team, where you'll build real applications and internal tools on top of frontier large language models before they're publicly released. You'll work directly with the lab's engineering manager, moving quickly and shipping working code from day one. It's a fully remote, 40-hour-per-week W-2 contract through Cincinnatus LLC, with a competitive hourly rate.
What You'll Do5
- 1Design, build, and deploy full-stack applications, microservices, and internal utilities — using Python, Java, Rust, C#, C++, or TypeScript — that put cutting-edge LLM features through their paces from frontend to backend.
- 2Wire up early-access model APIs into functional software, building the supporting pieces like tool connectors, test/evaluation setups, and monitoring telemetry along the way.
- 3Identify and document where models and integrations break during development, turning technical findings into clear, written feedback that helps the research team improve the models.
- 4Rapidly prototype against evolving requirements, delivering small, working increments even when the spec is thin or the direction changes mid-sprint.
- 5Work closely with the engineering manager and fellow engineers to keep code quality, architectural decisions, and technical documentation consistent across the team.
Requirements7
- 1At least six years of hands-on experience building and shipping production software at a well-known, high-caliber company — with real end-to-end ownership of the systems you've built.
- 2Deep, production-level expertise in at least one of Python, Java, Rust, C#, or C++, plus proven delivery in a second language from a different ecosystem.
- 3Comfort owning the full stack: backend service/API design, a modern frontend framework like React (or similar), data modeling, and cloud deployment/operations.
- 4A track record of jumping into unfamiliar codebases and shipping working code fast, with minimal ramp-up time.
- 5Clear, consistent career growth and increasing responsibility throughout your work history.
- 6Reliable availability for 40 hours per week during standard weekday hours.
- 7Excellent written communication skills, especially when explaining complex technical decisions to different audiences.
Who Should Apply
You're a senior full-stack engineer who gets excited about working directly with frontier AI models before they're public. You thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments, can pick up new codebases quickly, and take pride in shipping clean, working code. You communicate clearly in writing and are comfortable giving direct technical feedback to research teams.
