
Physics Expert (PhD / Postdoc) | $100-$200/hr Remote
Overview
We're bringing in PhD-level physicists to help train AI systems by solving hard problems from their own fields. Each week you'll produce detailed written solutions with derivations, assumptions, and final answers, all formatted in LaTeX. You'll also use Python and Jupyter notebooks to verify your work symbolically or numerically. Prior AI experience isn't required; your scientific depth does the heavy lifting. The engagement runs 8–10 weeks at a flexible 10–15 hours per week, fully remote anywhere in the world.
What You'll Do7
- 1Solve advanced physics problems from your specialization, delivering step-by-step derivations that are easy to follow and verify.
- 2Write precise technical solutions that spell out every assumption, approximation, and final answer using LaTeX notation.
- 3Use SymPy and Python within Jupyter notebooks to verify symbolic and numerical results, and to document your computational approach.
- 4Scrutinize problem statements for hidden complexity, such as special cases, boundary conditions, or dimensional inconsistencies, and address them explicitly.
- 5When you spot ambiguities in the project materials, flag them clearly and propose a sensible interpretation or ask for clarification.
- 6Revise your submitted work based on reviewer feedback, making sure corrections are integrated smoothly without disrupting the overall solution.
- 7Keep all documentation and code reproducible and organized, consistent with professional research standards.
Requirements7
- 1Hold a PhD in physics or be an advanced PhD candidate with active research experience in a relevant subfield.
- 2Have research expertise in at least one of these areas: high-energy physics, mathematical physics, biophysics, statistical physics, condensed matter (including moiré systems, magnetism, or PXP/Rydberg), AMO/quantum optics, gravitation, cosmology, astrophysics, quantum information, or optical properties of materials.
- 3Show a record of 2–5 publications from the past five years, with accessible arXiv or DOI links.
- 4Demonstrate working proficiency with LaTeX for mathematical typesetting and with SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for computation; be open about areas where you need extra support.
- 5Exhibit excellent written technical communication, with past work that is clear, precise, and logically argued.
- 6Possess strong analytical skills, able to distill the core physical principles from a complex problem and produce nuanced solutions.
- 7Commit to roughly 10 hours per week for an 8–10 week engagement, with flexibility to work evenings or weekends.
