Physics Expert and PI Guidance for AI Training
Overview
Senior physics expert needed to guide a high-impact project by providing domain insights for training next‑generation AI systems. Remote contractor role for established professors or principal investigators who can assess complex physics arguments, compare methods, and articulate meta‑level criteria. You’ll work with tools like LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter to verify claims and draft defensible evaluations for peer review. No AI experience required; deep domain knowledge is what matters.
What You'll Do7
- 1Render expert judgments on disputed physics arguments within your subfield and explain the reasoning clearly.
- 2Contrast multiple methods for the same problem, outlining assumptions, limits, and when each approach is preferred.
- 3Define meta‑level criteria to judge robustness and validity of competing physics work, including key assumptions and approximation boundaries.
- 4Communicate exact areas of uncertainty, providing transparent assessments of open questions in the field.
- 5Draft written evaluations that are precise and defensible for review by senior physicists, maintaining rigor and clarity.
- 6Use LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter to verify or challenge technical claims as needed.
- 7State when a question remains unresolved and map out the relevant considerations.
Requirements4
- 1PhD in physics with recognized expertise and impact in a defined subfield.
- 2Current or former senior research leader (Associate/Full Professor, Chair, or PI) with a track record of independent work.
- 3Active research in areas such as High Energy Physics, Mathematical Physics, Biophysics, Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter, AMO/Quantum Optics, Gravitation, Cosmology, Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials.
- 43–5 recent publications in the target subfield with arXiv or DOI references.
Who Should Apply
The role fits a senior researcher who can independently lead analysis and produce written assessments for peer review. It may not be suitable for someone without current or recent leadership experience or without active work in one of the specified subfields. Common fit challenges include gaps in programming tools like LaTeX, SymPy, Python, or Jupyter, and limited publication activity in the relevant area.
Salary Insight
Pay is $80 to $160 per hour for this contractor role; compensation details are provided here. Pay discussions occur as part of the engagement process.
