Member of Technical Staff, Enterprise AI | $100-$130/hr Remote
Overview
This role is for a hands-on research partner who embeds directly within enterprise AI systems to uncover real-world issues and drive rapid improvements. You'll work on live workflows, identify failure patterns, and run tight experimental cycles to boost system performance. It's a unique blend of applied research and engineering, aimed at making AI more robust in production environments. If you thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced settings and love turning operational problems into structured research questions, this could be your next move.
What You'll Do6
- 1Collaborate closely with enterprise clients and domain experts as a research partner embedded in their AI workflows.
- 2Identify, prioritize, and formalize failure modes that occur in real-world AI deployments, then design targeted experiments to address them.
- 3Create high-quality datasets and evaluation protocols that specifically probe known weaknesses in the system.
- 4Run fast, iterative experiments to validate hypotheses and quantify improvements in system behavior and reliability.
- 5Develop and benchmark agentic workflows with a focus on robustness and scalability, building lightweight tooling for evaluation and data curation as needed.
- 6Produce clear, decision-oriented analysis reports and contribute to both internal and external research artifacts like benchmarks.
Requirements6
- 1A Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or a closely related field.
- 2Strong judgment in evaluating research signal quality — including data selection, experiment design, and evaluation methodology.
- 3Proven ability to translate ambiguous operational issues into well-structured research problems and drive them to resolution.
- 4Familiarity with RL environments or agentic system evaluation is highly valued.
- 5Excellent communication skills with a bias toward actionable insights, and comfort working across research, product, and client teams.
- 6Experience with enterprise AI deployments or forward-deployed research models is a plus, as is building internal tooling for evaluation or research.
Who Should Apply
You're the kind of researcher-engineer hybrid who enjoys being in the trenches with real users and messy data, not just theoretical models. You have a keen eye for spotting where AI fails in practice and the technical chops to design rigorous experiments that fix those gaps. You communicate clearly, iterate quickly, and are equally comfortable talking to client stakeholders and diving into code or data pipelines.
Salary Insight
The base salary for this full-time remote role ranges from $140,000 to $180,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for equity compensation and performance-based bonuses. micro1 also offers up to 100% reimbursement for health insurance premiums, paid time off, and a 401(K) plan with company match.
