
Materials & Engineering Specialist | $60-$90/hr Remote
Overview
This role asks you to design evaluation tasks that reveal whether an AI model can perform real expert work in your field. You will build a prompt, a data room with supporting documents, and a grading scheme, then test the model and iterate until it fails in a meaningful way. Expect to draw on your own professional experience in materials science, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering to set the right level of difficulty. The position is remote and paid hourly, with daily onboarding and office hours available.

- 1Draft original task prompts that mirror the kind of real expert work you have handled in your own career.
- 2Assemble a data room for each task, including relevant documents, datasets, or reference materials the model can draw on.
- 3Write objective grading criteria so every answer can be scored without guesswork.
- 4Run each task against the model, observe the outputs, and identify the specific steps where it goes wrong.
- 5Revise the prompt and supporting materials after each run until the task exposes genuine limits in the model's reasoning.
- 6Coordinate with the project lead and fellow specialists to establish a shared standard for task difficulty and correctness.
Requirements5
- 1Senior-level expertise in materials science, covering metals, ceramics, composites, characterization, or additive manufacturing.
- 2Equivalent senior experience in electrical engineering, with focus on analog, RF, or power systems.
- 3Senior-level background in mechanical engineering, including design, CFD and fluids, heat transfer, pressure vessels, NDE, or CAE.
- 4Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to define your own structure when goals are still evolving.
- 5Ability to articulate not only the correct answer but also the specific reasoning mistakes that lead to wrong answers.

Salary Insight
