Overview

micro1 is hiring law students and recent graduates with law journal backgrounds to work on a legal citation project. You will review Bluebook and pincite grading rubrics, spot unclear or inconsistent rules, and create sample cite-checking tasks that include realistic errors, correct answers, and explanations. The role is fully remote and paid $50–80/hour. No AI experience is needed; your Bluebook fluency and editorial judgment are the core qualifications.

What You'll Do7

  • Examine existing Bluebook and pincite grading rubrics and point out rules that are vague, missing pieces, or likely to be applied differently by different editors.
  • Find edge cases the rubrics do not address and suggest how they should be handled.
  • Build sample cite-checking exercises: pair source material with citations that contain realistic mistakes, then supply the correct answer and an explanation of the relevant rule.
  • Cover a wide range of citation types and difficulty levels, from simple formatting slips to subtle pincite and source-support issues.
  • Apply Bluebook rules the same way across every task you submit.
  • Escalate ambiguous cases to project coordinators rather than deciding them on your own.
  • Turn in assigned work on time and at the expected quality level.

Requirements7

  • Currently enrolled in law school (2L or 3L) or a recent JD graduate.
  • Law review or law journal experience, ideally in a cite-checking or source-collection role.
  • Solid working knowledge of The Bluebook, covering pincites, short forms, signals, and parentheticals.
  • Ability to explain why a citation is wrong, not just that it is wrong; the reasoning counts as much as the fix.
  • Careful and consistent through long stretches of detailed review work.
  • Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines with little supervision.
  • Experience as a journal editor, articles editor, or executive editor is a plus.

Who Should Apply

A current 2L or 3L, or a recent JD grad, who has done cite-checking for a law review or journal and knows The Bluebook inside out. You should enjoy explaining citation errors and stay precise through repetitive review. Journal editor experience is a bonus.

Salary Insight

The rate is $50–80 per hour, as stated in the job post.

Application tip

In your application, name the specific Bluebook rules you have applied (pincites, short forms, signals, parentheticals) and describe a cite-checking error you caught on a journal, including the rule and how you fixed it. That shows the reasoning the client wants.
