English Image Caption Reviewer (Remote Contract)
Overview
This remote position puts you in the quality loop for AI-generated image captions. You receive a fixed batch of images, each paired with an English caption written by a model. Your task is to read every caption in full against the actual image and record any mismatch you can justify: wrong object counts, colors that don't align, text within the image that the caption misreads, or claims the picture simply doesn't back up. The image is the ground truth, so careful observation and precise documentation trump speed every time.
What You'll Do5
- 1Read each English caption in its entirety and compare it to the corresponding image, treating the image as the sole authority.
- 2Log every concrete discrepancy you can defend, including incorrect quantities, off-target colors, or objects that don't appear in the visual.
- 3Catch cases where visible text inside the image has been transcribed incorrectly or omitted from the caption entirely.
- 4Flag any caption statement that cannot be supported by what the image actually shows.
- 5Move through the fixed batch systematically, preserving the same level of scrutiny from the first image to the last.
Requirements4
- 1Native-level English proficiency, both in reading and writing.
- 2Strong visual and textual attention, comfortable spotting subtle mismatches between an image and its written description.
- 3The patience to check each caption line by line without rushing or relying on skim-reading.
- 4No specialized degree is required, but consistency and accuracy are non-negotiable.
Who Should Apply
This role is a natural fit for someone who finds satisfaction in meticulous, repetitive tasks and has a sharp eye for detail. You'll succeed if you can systematically compare visual content against written claims and clearly explain why a caption is wrong. It's less suited to people who need creative variety or a fast-changing environment. Candidates tend to get screened out when they skim captions, overlook obvious color or count errors, or submit defect logs without specific evidence. Show that you can slow down and verify every claim against the image.
Salary Insight
The hourly rate is set at $30.00, paid for each hour of review work. For a remote caption quality contract, that sits at the higher end of typical generalist pay and suggests the client prioritizes precision over volume. The rate is fixed, so there's no room for negotiation.
