Overview

micro1 seeks experienced Energy & Utilities Regulatory Attorneys to support a client's AI training initiative. You will apply your legal expertise to help models learn how to reason about rate design, tariff structure, and regulatory compliance. The work is fully remote, and you can be based anywhere as long as you hold an active U.S. bar license. No prior AI experience is needed; your domain knowledge is what matters.

What You'll Do7

  • Provide expert legal analysis on energy and utilities regulatory issues, covering rate design, tariff structure, and compliance obligations.
  • Work through realistic scenarios from FERC, state PUC, and ISO/RTO practice, explaining the reasoning behind each conclusion.
  • Identify when a question is unsettled, jurisdictionally contested, or dependent on facts that could change the answer.
  • Review and validate other contributors' work for legal accuracy and clarity of reasoning.
  • Document your analysis clearly so the reasoning is as useful as the final conclusion.
  • Flag ambiguous or poorly framed scenarios to project coordinators rather than resolving them silently.
  • Deliver assigned work on schedule and at the required quality level.

Requirements6

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active U.S. bar admission.
  • 4+ years of substantive energy and utilities regulatory practice, with hands-on experience rather than supervisory-only or adjacent exposure.
  • A corporate law foundation, ideally gained at a Vault 100 firm.
  • Experience advising utilities, independent power producers, or energy regulators on rate design, market structure, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to exercise sound regulatory judgment when rules conflict.
  • Familiarity with FERC and state PUC practice, as well as transactional energy work.

Who Should Apply

Attorneys with at least four years of hands-on energy and utilities regulatory experience, including work before FERC or state PUCs. You should be comfortable analyzing rate design, tariffs, and compliance issues and explaining your reasoning in writing. An active U.S. bar license is required.
