Computational Genomics, Statistical Bioinformatics Expert (PhD) | $120/hr Remote
Overview
This remote, project-based role puts your PhD-level expertise in computational genomics and statistical bioinformatics to work on real scientific problems. You will tackle messy, multi-step data analysis tasks in areas like quantitative biology and translational biomedicine, using R and Python to explore datasets, run quality control, and build reproducible analytical pipelines. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists and AI researchers, you'll navigate ambiguous research questions, make sound statistical choices, and explain what the data does and doesn't support. The engagement pays $120/hr and is open to qualified experts worldwide.
What You'll Do6
- 1Design and execute complex, multi-stage data analyses for projects in computational genomics, quantitative biology, and translational medicine.
- 2Examine raw or messy datasets on your own, run quality checks and exploratory analyses, then choose and apply the right statistical methods using R and Python code.
- 3Work through ambiguous research problems by identifying critical analytical decision points, potential confounders, and data limitations that could affect results.
- 4Build reproducible analysis pipelines with scientific software, scripts, and command-line tools, and deliver structured final outputs.
- 5Translate findings back to the original biological or clinical question, and document assumptions, uncertainty, and conclusions in a clear, precise way for the team.
- 6Collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of scientists and AI research specialists to align analytical choices with project goals.
Requirements6
- 1A PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, quantitative biology, biostatistics, genomics, or a closely related discipline.
- 2Substantial hands-on experience analyzing biological or biomedical datasets, with a focus on genomics, sequencing, single-cell, population genetics, QTL/GWAS, or other omics data.
- 3Professional-level proficiency in R and Python - you can write, debug, and explain analysis scripts with confidence.
- 4Solid grounding in statistical modeling, experimental design, quality control, and scientific inference.
- 5A track record of driving multi-step computational research workflows from raw, often messy data through to final interpretation without heavy hand-holding.
- 6Clear, precise scientific writing for documenting methods, assumptions, and results; familiarity with reproducible research tooling like notebooks, scripts, version control, or workflow managers is a bonus.
Who Should Apply
You are a PhD-level researcher who thrives on digging into complex, imperfect data and extracting clear, defensible biological conclusions. You're comfortable making judgment calls in ambiguous research situations, and you can explain your statistical reasoning to both scientists and AI specialists. You handle projects on your own, write clean code, and take pride in producing analyses that other people can reproduce and trust.

Application Tip
Be specific about your experience with messy genomic datasets. Instead of listing technologies, describe a recent project where you had to choose a statistical approach, handle confounders, and deliver a reproducible analysis - and include a link to the code or notebook.
