Overview
Turing needs a program leader to run the software engineering work behind advanced AI systems. You take research goals and turn them into reliable delivery, coordinating engineers spread across time zones and raising the quality and consistency of what they ship. The job pairs program ownership with hands-on technical review, so expect to read code, follow test suites and use data to find where delivery slows down. Day to day you work with Python and SQL, plus coding datasets, AI-agent trajectories and reinforcement-learning environments.
What You'll Do9
- Own delivery end to end: scope, schedules, quality, throughput, contributor performance and cost.
- Design workflows for coding datasets, repository-level tasks, AI-agent trajectories, reinforcement-learning environments, benchmarks and technical evaluations.
- Clear delivery bottlenecks by reworking instructions, review processes, incentives and capacity planning.
- Work with talent teams to define contributor needs, evaluate engineers and run onboarding, training and ramp-up.
- Set up team-lead and reviewer structures for distributed programs that span hundreds of contributors.
- Analyze quality trends and recurring errors, then fix the root causes behind them.
- Act as a main customer contact, reporting progress, risks and recovery plans while turning research objectives into practical task specifications.
- Use Python, SQL or similar tooling to automate quality sampling, defect analysis and operational reporting.
- Turn proven workflows into reusable playbooks and mentor other program leads.
Requirements6
- Led complex programs with several stakeholders across software engineering, technical program management, consulting, finance, startups, operations or a comparable setting.
- Managed distributed teams, contributor networks, marketplaces or large-scale technical operations.
- Strong analytical judgment, with a record of defining useful metrics and lifting delivery performance.
- Clear customer-facing communication: setting expectations, explaining risks and building working relationships.
- Able to read and review code, understand test suites and judge technical work in Python, TypeScript, Java or Go.
- Available for at least 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week, including 4 hours of overlap with Pacific working hours.
Who Should Apply
Program leads who have run distributed engineering work at scale and still read code well enough to judge it. You have managed contributor networks or large technical operations, and you are ready for a three-month freelance contract with four hours of Pacific overlap each day.
Salary Insight
The role pays $92.00 per hour on a three-month freelance contract, with 40 hours per week expected. That figure lines up with senior technical program management work that also calls for hands-on code review and multi-stakeholder coordination.
