Overview

Mercor seeks RF and electromagnetic engineering experts for a short-term, remote project with a leading technology organization. In this role, you will analyze antennas, RF circuits, propagation behavior, and system architectures, then turn your findings into clear recommendations. You will also review simulations and technical specifications, weigh design trade-offs, and validate engineering approaches with tools like HFSS and CST. The position is an hourly contract, so your earnings reflect the time you spend on problem-solving and expert evaluation.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Tackle complex problems that require a deep understanding of RF and electromagnetic behavior.
  • 2Inspect RF and EM systems, components, antennas, circuits, and whole architectures to identify issues.
  • 3Put electromagnetic theory and core RF principles into action on real engineering scenarios.
  • 4Examine technical specifications, system requirements, simulation outputs, and engineering data to draw conclusions.
  • 5Assess design trade-offs, performance limits, engineering calculations, assumptions, and proposed fixes.
  • 6Check technical approaches and results for validity, then produce rigorous, well-reasoned explanations.
  • 7Apply the project's technical guidelines and evaluation criteria to every deliverable.

Requirements7

  • 1Hands-on industry experience in RF, electromagnetic, microwave, or antenna engineering.
  • 2A bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, electronics, RF engineering, electromagnetics, or a related field.
  • 3Practical command of electromagnetic theory, RF principles, and signal propagation.
  • 4Applied experience in at least one of these areas: RF and microwave systems, antenna design, electromagnetic simulation, RF circuits and components, EMC/EMI, wireless communications, radar, RF propagation, or RF measurement and testing.
  • 5Working familiarity with simulation and analysis tools such as HFSS, CST, COMSOL, MATLAB, or ADS.
  • 6Preference for experience with phased arrays, beamforming, MIMO, satellite communications, or millimeter-wave systems.
  • 7Ability to translate theoretical RF/EM concepts into practical engineering solutions and clear explanations.

Who Should Apply

This role suits an RF engineer who has spent years applying electromagnetic theory to real systems, whether in antenna design, microwave circuits, or wireless infrastructure. Pure academics or recent graduates without hands-on lab or simulation experience will likely find the work uncomfortable, because the project demands practical judgment, not just textbook knowledge. The hiring team often passes over candidates who cannot name the specific simulation tools they have used or who fail to articulate the trade-offs behind a design decision. Evaluators want to see evidence of real engineering decisions, so vague references to research are not enough.

Salary Insight

Pay for this contract is $80 to $95 per hour. That hourly rate often corresponds to senior or principal-level RF and electromagnetic consulting, so expect the interview to probe for deep industry experience and technical judgment. The posting does not list a project timeline or other compensation details, so those come up during conversations with Mercor.

Application Tip

In your application, name the exact RF/EM simulation tools you have used (HFSS, CST, COMSOL, ADS, MATLAB) and describe one specific engineering problem you solved with one of them. Include the trade-offs you evaluated and the final outcome, because the project seeks experts who can defend their technical decisions.
