Overview
micro1 is seeking experienced nuclear and radiological security experts to support a project that defines safety standards and protocols for training advanced AI systems. In this remote contract role, you'll apply your domain knowledge to help shape how AI models handle sensitive nuclear information and assess risks. No prior AI experience is required—your specialized expertise is what matters most.
What You'll Do7
- 1Set the scope and criteria for evaluating nuclear and radiological safety, nonproliferation, and security measures.
- 2Create frameworks for safely abstracting sensitive or classified information within technical documents.
- 3Define escalation thresholds and procedures for managing nuclear security risks in research and real-world scenarios.
- 4Provide expert input on benchmarking risk assessments related to nuclear and radiological hazards to strengthen nonproliferation safeguards.
- 5Review and refine technical guidelines for nuclear and radiological safety to support the training of next-generation AI models.
- 6Work with cross-functional teams to ensure safety standards protect national and global security while enabling legitimate scientific progress.
- 7Document best practices and rationales for information security and compliance decisions in nuclear domains.
Requirements7
- 1At least 5 years of experience (ideally 8–20 years for senior contributors) in nuclear physics, radiological safety, nonproliferation, or nuclear safeguards.
- 2An advanced degree, professional certification, or equivalent operational background in nuclear or radiological fields.
- 3A proven track record of working with government agencies, national laboratories, regulatory bodies, or academic institutions on nuclear security or policy.
- 4Deep understanding of nonproliferation frameworks, international safeguards, and weapons-relevant controls.
- 5Strong credibility and recognition within the nuclear or radiological safety community.
- 6Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex technical topics to diverse audiences.
- 7Experience contributing to or overseeing security evaluations, compliance protocols, or risk assessments in sensitive technical environments.
Who Should Apply
This role is ideal for seasoned nuclear security professionals—physicists, engineers, policy experts, or former regulators—who have deep expertise in radiological safety and nonproliferation. You should be comfortable collaborating with AI teams and translating complex domain knowledge into clear guidelines. If you've worked at national labs, government agencies, or international bodies and want your expertise to directly influence AI safety, this contract offers a unique opportunity.
