Overview

Remote contract role focusing on evaluating and creating high-quality materials science content. Work as a SME to review AI-generated materials science outputs, assess accuracy of crystal structures, phase diagrams, and structure-property relationships, and provide precise written feedback. Collaborate with an AI data services team to improve model explanations, calculations, and terminology in materials science contexts.

What You'll Do5

  • 1Create prompts and gold-standard materials science answers across metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, phase diagrams, heat treatment, and mechanical testing using dedicated tools and datasets.
  • 2Evaluate and rank AI-generated materials science outputs for accuracy, engineering logic, and terminology to enhance prompt-driven results.
  • 3Identify and flag misleading material properties, incorrect processing claims, flawed microstructure reasoning, and unsafe design recommendations in AI outputs.
  • 4Rewrite and model high-quality materials science explanations that demonstrate best practices in structure-property reasoning and microstructure analysis.
  • 5Rate and compare multiple AI responses for correctness and overall quality, documenting the rationale for selection.

Requirements8

  • 1Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Polymer Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 23+ years in materials science research, engineering, laboratory work, or related technical roles.
  • 3Strong English proficiency (C1+).
  • 4Deep understanding of structure-property relationships, phase diagrams, mechanical behavior, heat treatment, polymers, ceramics, metals, composites, and characterization techniques.
  • 5Ability to assess materials explanations, diagrams, and experimental interpretations for accuracy and clarity.
  • 6Attention to detail in reviewing units, terminology, test methods, processing conditions, and design tradeoffs.
  • 7Reliable, self-directed, hourly remote contractor capable of working across time zones.
  • 8Prior experience with AI data training, scientific QA, or rubric-based evaluation is highly preferred.

Who Should Apply

Ideal candidates are seasoned materials scientists or engineers who excel at precise scientific evaluation, rewrite quality, and clear written feedback. They should be comfortable working remotely on an hourly contract and able to review AI-generated content for accuracy. The role may be less suitable for someone without hands-on materials science experience or without strong English writing skills. Candidates who struggle with technical terminology or identifying inconsistencies in phase diagrams or microstructure analysis may score lower.
