Overview

AfterQuery builds a network of scientific researchers who create evaluation tasks for AI models. The work starts with a real computational project from your own biology research, such as an analysis pipeline, a dynamical model, a structural simulation, or a statistical inference method you wrote and debugged. You turn that project into a main problem, connected subproblems, a Python reference solution, and tests that return a clear result. The role suits computational biology and bioinformatics researchers who want flexible, task-based contract work. Pay comes as $200 per approved task, with each task taking about two hours and no cap on volume.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Design original evaluation tasks that come from computational work you have run and debugged in your own research.
  • 2Choose a main problem and a few connected subproblems that reflect real biology, bioinformatics, or related scientific work.
  • 3Write a Python reference solution and tests that check whether a submitted solution returns the expected result.
  • 4State the metrics that a strong answer should meet, while keeping exact passing thresholds private.
  • 5Revise each task after structured review feedback until reviewers approve it.
  • 6Take on optional peer review and calibration of tasks submitted by other domain experts.

Requirements8

  • 1Bachelor's student on a research track or with research experience such as an REU, thesis, RA role, or lab position, or a Master's or PhD student, postdoc, or recent graduate in biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • 2Hands-on coding experience, with Python as the preferred language, used to build analysis pipelines or models of biological systems.
  • 3Ability to shape your own computational research into a well-specified task with a reference solution and tests.
  • 4Comfort managing your own time on flexible, task-based work with no fixed weekly schedule.
  • 5Authorization to work as an independent contractor without visa sponsorship. F-1 students, including OPT and CPT, do not qualify.
  • 6Research background in systems or structural biology, computational neuroscience, epidemiology, or ecological modeling is a plus.
  • 7Public code, a thesis, or papers that show your computational work is a plus.
  • 8Prior data annotation, data labeling, or AI/ML evaluation experience is a plus.

Who Should Apply

Research-track Bachelor's students, Master's or PhD students, postdocs, and recent graduates in biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or biomedical engineering fit this role. Candidates write their own Python code, turn research into tasks with reference solutions and tests, and work as independent contractors without visa sponsorship.

Salary Insight

The listing sets pay at $100 per hour, structured as $200 for each approved task that takes about two hours. That rate sits high for flexible independent research work and often matches graduate-level or PhD computational expertise. You set your own volume because the contract has no cap on tasks.

Application Tip

Before you apply, gather a link to code you wrote, such as a Python analysis pipeline or biological model, and draft one calculation from your research that could become a task. Include the main problem, a few subproblems, the metric you would use, and how a reference solution would check the result. This matches the credentials AfterQuery requests and shows your fit as a task author.

Computational Research Task Author

AfterQuery builds a bench of researchers who turn their own computational science into evaluation tasks for AI models. You would take a simulation, solver, fitting routine, data-reduction step, or analysis pipeline you have run and shape it into a research-grade problem with subproblems, a reference answer, and tests that check the scientific result. Python serves as the working language, and the scientific depth should come from your domain, whether that means bioinformatics, quantum chemistry, computational astrophysics, or another computational field. Reviewers give structured feedback, and you revise until the task passes approval. The work is task-based, with no fixed hours each week.
