Overview

This role is designed for seasoned US corporate tax experts who want to apply their knowledge in an AI-adjacent context. You'll review and refine tax research outputs generated by AI models, checking for accuracy, completeness, and legal soundness. It's a short-term, fully remote contract with flexible hours — ideal for a current consultant or someone with extra bandwidth.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Evaluate roughly 120 existing corporate tax research prompts and their corresponding model answers to ensure technical correctness.
  • 2Verify that draft gold-standard responses align with current US Federal Corporate Tax law, including proper citation of statutes, Treasury Regulations, IRS guidance, case law, and secondary sources.
  • 3Assess the quality, authority, and relevance of each cited legal source, flagging any that are outdated or misapplied.
  • 4Review and refine grading rubrics for completeness, consistency, and accuracy — rewriting sections where the existing rubric doesn't reflect current law or best practices.
  • 5Rewrite gold answers and rubrics as needed to incorporate recent legislative changes, effective dates, and evolving guidance like the OBBBA and other tax law updates.
  • 6Verify that all outputs correctly account for effective dates, legislative changes, and the most up-to-date IRS pronouncements.

Requirements6

  • 1At least 5 years of professional US tax experience, preferably with a focus on corporate taxation.
  • 2Hold a CPA, JD (with LLM in Tax strongly preferred), or equivalent experience as a Tax Manager, Tax Counsel, or Big Four tax professional.
  • 3Deep and current expertise in US Federal Corporate Tax, including the ability to navigate complex code sections and regulations.
  • 4Solid understanding of tax research methodologies, source hierarchy, and how to weigh different authorities (e.g., statute vs. ruling vs. case law).
  • 5Proven experience drafting technical tax memoranda, workpapers, tax opinions, and IRS forms with high attention to detail.
  • 6Excellent written communication skills — you'll need to explain corrections clearly and concisely.

Who Should Apply

We're looking for a meticulous tax professional who enjoys the challenge of reviewing detailed technical work and can quickly spot subtle errors. You're comfortable with evolving tax law and have likely worked on complex corporate tax issues at a law firm, Big Four accounting firm, or large corporation. If you have a side interest in AI and quality assurance, even better — this role blends tax expertise with a process-improvement mindset.

Salary Insight

$120.00 - $140.00 per hour, paid on an hourly basis.

Application Tip

In your cover letter or application, mention one specific recent tax law change (e.g., from the OBBBA or a recent IRS ruling) and how you would verify an AI-generated answer that references it. This will show you understand both the tax content and the quality-review process.
