AI Software Engineering Domain Expert | $100-$200/hr Remote
Overview
Remote, part-time contract work with micro1 where you apply deep software engineering knowledge to help train next-generation AI systems. You’ll review and polish AI-generated technical content, refine prompts, and judge model outputs using rubrics to ensure accuracy and quality. The role centers on drafting and editing technical docs, architecture plans, RFCs, and design specs that feed AI training, plus independent research and data annotation. Strong writing and a solid engineering background are essential, and you’ll collaborate asynchronously with project leads to meet deliverables.
What You'll Do7
- 1Review and improve AI-generated technical content for clarity and engineering accuracy
- 2Create and refine prompts and instructions to steer AI models toward high-quality technical outputs
- 3Perform rubric-based evaluations of AI outputs and give detailed qualitative feedback
- 4Draft and edit architecture documents, RFCs, design specs, and engineering proposals for AI training
- 5Conduct independent research and fact-checking to verify technical claims
- 6Annotate and interpret data to support nuanced evaluation and labeling tasks
- 7Collaborate asynchronously with project leads and experts to deliver within guidelines
Requirements7
- 13+ years in software engineering roles (e.g., Software Engineer, Senior, Technical Lead, or Architect)
- 2Experience authoring or reviewing technical artifacts such as design specs, architecture documents, RFCs, and engineering proposals
- 3Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and logical problem-solving skills
- 4Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality technical outputs
- 5Proven written communication skills with professional or technical editing experience
- 6Familiarity with AI coding tools or automated documentation generators is a plus
- 7Advanced degree or credentials from selective programs are highly regarded
Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate has a solid software engineering background with hands-on experience producing technical documents and reviewing complex content. They should be comfortable evaluating AI outputs through rubrics, drafting clear technical literature, and performing independent fact-checking. This role may be less suitable for someone without substantial engineering experience or who cannot work asynchronously with project leads. Common rejection points include insufficient experience in producing or reviewing architecture or RFCs and limited attention to detail in technical work.
Salary Insight
Pay ranges from 100 to 200 per hour; compensation is discussed later.
